This was an exhibition at the glasshouse. It involved members of HVFAA. Members were invited to submit their entries: two paintings, one in our normal style, and the second, an abstraction of the original.
My submission, which was accepted, was a painting of two policewomen on horseback in a Sydney city street. the reference was a photograph I took in Crown Street, Surry Hills on a rainy April day. the Policewomen were stopped at the traffic lights, and by the time I got my iPad ready to take the shots, the lights had turned green, and the police were nearly past me.
I experimented with abstracting this subject. some of the attempts and the finished product appear on another part of this website. it was an interesting journey, part of which was attending a number of workshops to learn about the process of abstraction. in the end, i came up with a jumble to the figures in the painting in bright colours, and was pleased with the result.
